Writer & Creative
Anna McGrath is a writer interested in exploring identity, belonging, and cultural heritage, particularly the experiences of the Irish diaspora. One of Playwrights’ Studio Scotland’s six mentored playwrights in 2024, she has strong ties to both Northern Ireland and Scotland and has collaborated with companies including Provan Hall Trust, The Brunton, East Lothian Council, and Threes Theatre Company in Belfast.
Education
Anna completed an MA Acting RCS (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and achieved a BA in Drama & Creative Writing (Royal Holloway, University of London. She also has a PGCE (Teach First Leadership Programme)

Feis is a play about Irish dancing and the desire to win, no matter what the cost. It’s also about female familial relationships and their complexities. It’s about identity and taps into the idealistic longing that the Irish diaspora have for their homeland. Feis is a dark comedy with a warm heart, where Aoife returns to find her world turned upside down and her mother Deirdre is waiting, ready to pick up their training just where they left it.

A play about the Fishing Community in Dunbar, developed in conjunction with East Lothian Council & The Brunton Trust. Last Light follows three young people as they prepare for the summer and uncover stories from the past. Set in a coastal town, the play explores the connection between generations in the fishing and RNLI community.

A screen play about a women who is being rehabilitated into a small community, after being imprisoned for manslaughter, adapting to parenting a child she has not met since birth. Themes of: mental health, violence, maternal bonds, sexual violence.
